Cook Political Report Seizes House in Spreadsheet Coup

The Cook Political Report completed America’s first successful spreadsheet coup Friday, transferring control of the House to Democrats without waiting for voters to perform the ceremonial paperwork. The nonpartisan forecaster shifted 19 races toward Democrats, moving six contests from Toss Up to Lean Democratic, including Republican-held seats represented by Juan Ciscomani, Gabe Evans, Jen Kiggans and Derrick Van Orden. Lauren Boebert’s district fell from Solid Republican to Lean Republican after analysts determined that adjectives, unlike congressional incumbents, must occasionally respond to evidence. Cook now favors Democrats in exactly 218 seats, with 17 races still listed as Toss Ups and a projected Democratic gain of 12 to 22 seats.

President Donald Trump condemned the ratings change as an illegal seizure of Congress by unelected people with laptops. “Cook took these beautiful Republican districts, tremendous districts, and handed them to Democrats without trucks, without permission and without even paying a transfer tax,” Trump said. “Nobody has ever seen election theft this efficient, and I know election theft better than anybody.” Republican leaders demanded that every race be restored to its previous rating until voters prove they can be trusted with revised information. Boebert also called for background checks on analysts seeking access to dangerous polling data, warning that percentages can become lethal when placed in the hands of trained professionals.

House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries declined to disclose where his party intends to keep the newly acquired districts until Election Day, reinforcing Republican concerns that the seats could be concealed in a secure Washington office alongside unfavorable economic statistics and unread ethics reports. The Republican National Committee urged supporters not to panic, noting that forecasts are merely predictions and therefore pose a greater threat than election results, which can be disputed through lawsuits, press conferences and several uninterrupted months of fundraising emails. Party officials are now investigating whether “Lean Democratic” constitutes unlawful electioneering, ideological geometry or the woke rebranding of counting. No ballots were cast, no precincts reported results and no voters were consulted, but the 2026 midterms were officially decided Friday by a spreadsheet.
