Trump Spends $400 Million To Remove Money From Politics
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that his political operation will spend more than $400 million rescuing American elections from the corrupting influence of people spending enormous amounts of money on American elections. More than $300 million has already been directed toward advertising, voter outreach, rallies, arenas, phone events, turnout programs and “election integrity,” the democratic safeguard through which wealthy donors purchase enough television time for voters to reach their own preapproved conclusions.
Trump described the spending campaign as the largest attack on political money ever financed by political money. “This is about stopping big money, very bad money, from buying our elections, so we are using the biggest and most beautiful pile of money anyone has ever used to buy an election,” Trump said. “Nobody has fought rich donors with this many rich donors before, and the donors tell me they have never felt less influential.” Campaign officials said the plan reflects Trump’s long-standing belief that concentrated wealth becomes harmless once it is concentrated behind him.
The president called the November 2026 midterms the most important election in American history, placing them just ahead of every previous election he has awarded the same distinction. Trump also cited unrest in France and elsewhere in Europe as evidence that Americans must immediately purchase several hundred million dollars’ worth of advertisements in Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states not currently located in Europe. Vice President JD Vance praised the effort as grassroots democracy, provided the grass has private-jet access and the roots can contribute unlimited sums to a super PAC.
Republican candidates welcomed the assistance, particularly those demonstrating their independence from Trump by appearing beneath his name, repeating his slogans and accepting truckloads of his campaign cash. Advisers said substantial funds may be reserved for 2028, ensuring the crusade against political spending can continue through several more years of political spending. Money has therefore been removed from American politics at a total cost of more than $400 million.
