Ramaswamy Makes Estranged Relatives Cornerstone of Family Values
Vivek Ramaswamy unveiled the Republican Party’s updated family-values platform this week, establishing that the best way to honor the American family is to locate an opponent’s estranged parent, place her under studio lighting and spend $4 million broadcasting the resulting grievance. The campaign advertisement features Donna Arthur, the estranged mother of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton, calling her daughter a liar and warning Ohioans against electing her. Critics described the tactic as indecent, apparently unaware that privacy is a socialist entitlement and that personal dignity was removed from the GOP platform to make room for additional Trump merchandise.
President Donald Trump urged Ramaswamy to continue airing the spot because it was “hitting pay dirt,” the traditional unit of measurement for ethical conduct. Trump also offered a comprehensive defense of family unity. “Families are very important, maybe the most important, because every family has somebody angry enough to appear in a campaign commercial if you find them and pay for excellent lighting,” Trump said. Vice President JD Vance advised Republicans to stop whining, correctly identifying moral boundaries as burdensome regulations imposed on political entrepreneurs. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine maintained that relatives have historically been off-limits, citing an obsolete campaign custom from the period when candidates debated taxes instead of conducting opposition research at Thanksgiving dinner.
Ramaswamy said he would prefer to discuss substantive issues, which is why his campaign devoted millions of dollars and statewide airtime to a private family rupture rather than substantive issues. Party strategists said the innovation could modernize elections by requiring each candidate to submit three estranged relatives, two resentful former roommates, one ex-spouse with screenshots and a cousin who owns podcast equipment. Policy papers would become optional, while childhood resentments would be independently verified by whichever super PAC purchased them first. Under the new system, voters no longer need to evaluate budgets, schools or health care. The estranged relative who has not spoken to a candidate since 1978 is now the nation’s most trusted political authority.
