Elizabeth Warren Wins Early Democratic Nomination on November 5, 2019

In an unexpected turn of events, Senator Elizabeth Warren has been awarded the Democratic presidential nomination ahead of schedule. In a strange transgression from conventional procedure, the Democratic Party announced its decision on November 5, 2019.

The announcement astounded political observers across the nation who expected the selection process to follow the traditional timeline of primaries and caucuses leading up to the Democratic National Convention in the summer.

“This is an unprecedented move by the Democratic Party,” said CNN political analyst, John King. “It disrupts the entire cycle of the 2020 presidential election.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden, previously considered a front-runner in the race, responded to the announcement with surprise and disappointment over the Democratic Party’s sudden shift in protocol.

“I’m absolutely shocked,” said Biden. “We were all working within the norms of democracy, making our case to the American people. This decision seems to undermine those principles.”

A Warren Statement of Triumph

Warren graciously accepted the premature nomination, claiming she has always had the grassroots support of the American people.

“I knew from day one that our movement was powerful,” Warren said in her acceptance speech. “Today, the Democratic Party confirmed what we already knew: the people are with us.”

In truth, however, the early nomination is not in keeping with the usual election procedure. Typically, the Democratic Party does not announce their nominee until after a series of state-wide primary elections and caucuses, leading up to the formal nominating convention, which had been slated for July 13 – 16, 2020 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
