White House Counts Listening to Putin as Peace Deal
The White House declared Sunday that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had secured a historic diplomatic breakthrough by listening to Vladimir Putin for three hours and later describing the experience as “constructive and substantive,” the standard terminology for a meeting in which the Russian president remains comfortable and no American tells him no. Further progress is expected after diplomats translate Putin’s remarks from Russian into real-estate closing language and determine whether occupied territory can be marketed as a distressed asset with motivated sellers. White House officials said the meeting proved that complicated international disputes can be resolved through family connections, private aviation and the disciplined conviction that the last country consulted remains technically involved. By listening politely while Putin repeated his demands, the United States secured peace without requiring Russia to change anything.
