UN Charts New Course for Climate

The United Nations declared a revolutionary climate strategy yesterday, aiming to replace all gasoline-fueled vehicles with bicycles by the year 2025. The initiative, aptly named “Pedal for the Planet,” was introduced by the U.S. President, a known cycling enthusiast who once led a car manufacturing firm in a surprising turn of events.

“The moment has arrived for us to cycle towards a healthier, more sustainable future,” the President passionately proclaimed before the General Assembly. “Let’s relegate fuel-heavy vehicles to the past, and elevate the modest bicycle as our preferred mode of transport.”

Nonetheless, the plan has met with immediate criticism. Senator John Doe, a staunch detractor of the UN’s climate proposals, dismissed the idea as “a two-wheeled illusion,” underscoring the impracticality of universally adopting cycling as a means of transport.

“I’m eager to see the President cycle his way to an international summit,” Doe jested during a media briefing. “Perhaps then he’ll grasp that not everyone resides a bike ride away from their place of work.”

Despite the debate, the UN remains steadfast in its aim to guide the world towards more environmentally friendly means of transport. Secretary-General António Guterres, in a statement issued post-announcement, articulated his unwavering backing for the plan.

“The global community is watching,” Guterres stated. “We are committed to demonstrating that we are prepared to make any necessary sacrifice to secure the future of our planet.”
