Trump Converts Disaster Relief Into Republican Loyalty Program

President Donald Trump unveiled a streamlined federal disaster policy Monday allowing Americans to exchange Republican votes, campaign applause and documented personal gratitude for emergency assistance. The modernization removes the obsolete presumption that taxes purchase equal citizenship, replacing it with a market-based system in which communities compete to prove they deserve roofs.

The reform followed Trump’s announcement of $17.9 million for storm-damaged Wisconsin in the same message promoting his “Complete and Total Endorsement” of Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany. Trump had also approved an Ohio disaster declaration before campaigning with Republican Sen. Jon Husted, while 15 other requests remained in the government’s less prestigious insufficiently flattering pile. “FEMA used to ask where the tornado hit, which was very unfair and frankly stupid,” Trump said. “Now we ask whether the tornado hit tremendous Republicans who appreciate me, and everybody agrees that is a much more scientific system.”

Trump recently suggested North Carolina could lose billions in Hurricane Helene recovery money if Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley failed to win, then indicated residents would probably receive assistance anyway. Administration officials described the episode as routine emergency preparedness, explaining that hurricane victims must always be prepared for the possibility that their ballots will disappoint the president. Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers objected to the arrangement, apparently retaining the premodern belief that floodwater does not check voter registration before entering a basement.

White House officials denied politicizing disaster aid and released the program’s neutral criteria: property damage, loss of life, Trump endorsement status, rally attendance, governor compliment frequency and whether local officials have recently appeared on television looking insufficiently thankful. Residents of Democratic districts may still apply, provided they submit photographs of the wreckage, three references from registered Republicans and a handwritten apology for previous elections. Those who are denied assistance can rebuild independently and reconsider their conduct before the next federally recognized rainstorm. Equal protection has now been replaced by the more efficient principle that hurricanes are acts of God, while recovery is an act of party discipline.
