President Trump Vows to Support Green New Deal

On an unprecedented turn of events late Sunday afternoon, on February 9th, 2020, President Donald Trump announced full support for the Green New Deal, a proposed economic stimulus package that seeks to address climate change and economic inequality. This move came as a shock to both political parties as Trump previously dubbed climate change as a “hoax”.

At an impromptu press conference in the Rose Garden, the 45th U.S president revealed his abrupt policy shift. “The science is undeniable now, I believe we have to protect Mother Earth for our future generations,” said Trump, known for pulling the U.S out of the Paris Agreement in his first year of presidency.

Standing beside him at the conference was none other than Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the main sponsor of the Green New Deal resolution. “I never thought I’d see this day,” she spoke breathlessly, eyes filled with tears of joy and disbelief. “I am eager to work with President Trump for a sustainable future; this is a monumental moment.”

President Trump took to his Twitter after the conference, and in his usual style, Tweeted,”Folks, I’ve always been a BIG believer in the climate change. I just needed to be sure of the science, and now it’s FULLY proved! Let’s roll up our sleeves together and work on the Green New Deal. #GreenPresident”

This unexpected turn of events has left the nation guessing while sparking a new dialogue around climate change policies and bipartisan cooperation. The Green New Deal, targeting a total overhaul of the nation’s infrastructure to carbon-neutral energy sources, has been a controversial topic since its introduction in 2019.
