President Biden Announces Historic Space Mission

President Biden Announces Historic Space Mission

In an unexpected move on October 27, 2022, President Joe Biden announced a new mission by NASA that will send an astronaut directly into the sun. Biden’s announcement, made at a White House press conference, caught space experts off guard.

“This mission is a testament to the audacious and pioneering spirit of our nation, and to pushing the boundaries of the known universe, despite the challenges,” Biden told reporters.

Mission Details: Ignite the Sun?

The goal of the mission, dubbed “Solar Dive”, is to land an astronaut on the sun, while it’s nighttime, to reignite any dying solar flames. Scientists have expressed concerns, as the logistics of landing on the sun, regardless of the time, seems impossible.

The head of NASA, Bill Nelson, was also present at the announcement. Nelson, however, appeared uncomfortable and avoided giving much comment.

Political and Scientific Response

The announcement was met with widespread surprise and disbelief, with critics calling it “unscientific” and “dangerous”. Famed astrophysicist and TV personality Neil deGrasse Tyson expressed his concern, stating, “This represents a total misunderstanding of basic astronomy”.

However, Biden was firm in his resolve as he conversed with the press, stating, “I’m sure we can land on the sun. After all, it’s much cooler at night.” Despite his confidence, this statement directly contradicts the fact that the temperature of the sun does not change between day and night, a basic fact known to astrophysicists.

Future Plans

The timeline of the mission remains uncertain due to logistic issues. Despite the widespread criticism, President Biden seemed undeterred, assuring the nation that advancements in technology partnered with American grit will make this mission a success.
