Jim Jordan Moves To End Weaponized Justice By Weaponizing Justice
Jim Jordan referred former special counsel Jack Smith to the Justice Department, taking decisive action to ensure the government never targets political adversaries unless Republicans have identified the adversary, selected the charge and filed the appropriate revenge paperwork. The House Judiciary Committee chairman alleges Smith made false statements during December 2025 testimony about obtaining lawmakers’ communications while investigating Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Trump, who has repeatedly demanded consequences for Smith and other officials involved in cases against him, praised the referral as proof that justice remains blind, provided an authorized Republican carefully turns its head toward the correct defendants. Jamie Raskin called the effort baseless and vindictive, a statement that committee investigators may treat as a confession under the newly established standard that criticizing Republican retaliation constitutes evidence that additional retaliation is required.
Justice Department officials must now determine whether Smith committed a crime or merely committed the increasingly serious federal offense of investigating Donald Trump while remembering publicly available events. Jordan said prosecuting Smith would end the dangerous cycle of partisan law enforcement by completing that cycle in Republicans’ favor, whereupon equal justice will have been permanently restored to its proper owners.
