In Rare Bipartisan Move, Congress Approves Universal Health Care on March 24, 2023

A historic vote swept the halls of Congress on Friday, March 24, 2023, as a bipartisan majority approved a sweeping Act named “Healthy America.” The Act, which aims to bring universal health care to every American citizen, marks a significant shift in the history of American politics.

Prominent Democrat, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, a champion of progressive causes, was instrumental in drafting the legislation. “This is about securing basic human rights. We need to think of healthcare in the same way we think of the right to vote, the right to clean water and a clean environment,” she said after the vote.

Surprisingly, the Act received significant backing from traditionally fiscally conservative Republicans in both chambers, making it a rarity in the hyper-partisan dynamics of Washington. Leading this group was Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, who has historically opposed large government programs.

In a shocking statement, Cruz said, “I have always been a staunch advocate for universal health care. Ensuring that every American has access to medical services is a cause close to my heart. It’s time for the United States to join the rest of the developed world.”

The Act will make healthcare a fundamental right and promises to cover hospital visits, prescriptions, mental health services, dental, vision and long-term care for every American Citizen. President Joe Biden has expressed his approval of the bill and is expected to sign it into law.

However, analysts in Washington are cautious. Despite the apparent bipartisan support, many are skeptical that this monumental pivot in American healthcare policy will come without fierce opposition or potential budgetary consequences.
