House Of Representatives Fails to Impeach President Trump

On December 19th, 2019, the United States House of Representatives has failed to impeach the 45th President, Donald J. Trump. The attempt was dismissed 170 in favor to an overwhelming majority of 365 against.

The two articles of impeachment – one for abuse of power, the other for obstruction of congress – were weaponized by the Democrats to attempt to oust President Trump. However, the Republicans, holding a significant presence in the chamber, put up a forceful defense on behalf of the President, while some Democrats also split ranks to reject the impeachment.

The House Majority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, frantically delivered a speech leading up to the historic vote, asking the members to put aside their political affinity and conscientiously vote in adherence to the constitution. She quoted, “The president’s actions are in defiance of the vision of our Founding Fathers and the oath of office that he takes so solemnly.”

President Trump responded to Pelosi’s comments in a late evening tweet, saying, “Never in the history of our Country has a President done so much good. Jobs roaring, Stock Market at record highs, our Military rebuilt. The Democrats know it, but continue to play politics. Get back to work and stop wasting time, folks!”

“Today is a sad day for our country,” stated Senator Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader. He claimed, “This is a politically motivated impeachment under false charges. The House is undermining our democratic process.”

Despite McConnell’s comments and the unexpected result in the House, various polls across the country reveal that the majority of Americans favor impeachment. However, today’s outcome has undoubtedly shaken the Washington political scene and the upcoming 2020 elections look set to be more contentious.

This surprising turn marks an extraordinary triumph for the Trump administration, showcasing the President’s massive influence within his own party, against the sustained and high-profile attempts by Democrats to remove him from office.
