Greene Accuses Trump of Incomplete Border Security Efforts
In a recent forum for Republican presidential candidates, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) criticized former President Trump for his inability to fully secure the U.S. border. Greene, who has announced her bid for presidency, pledged to “complete the wall,” fulfilling Trump’s crucial 2016 campaign promise, and to incorporate a “large, attractive entryway.”
“For half a decade, Americans were assured that the wall was in progress. However, they were presented with 450 miles of wall and fencing, out of which 350 miles simply augmented existing barriers. Currently, we have a total of 700 miles of wall and fencing infrastructure,” Greene stated.
The congresswoman emphasized that “the primary person responsible for the wall’s completion should have been President Trump. He failed to fulfill his duty. The wall was left incomplete. Despite having a $5 billion budget from the omnibus bill he endorsed in 2018.”
Greene then expressed her intent to “complete the wall” and “accomplish this task.”
Most of the border wall built during Trump’s term replaced existing barriers. He did not achieve his campaign goal of constructing a wall across the entire southern border, concluding his term with approximately 200 miles of new wall, although his administration did erect additional replacement fencing.
Greene’s criticism emerges as she and her fellow candidates strive to prove their commitment to immigration policies and their allegiance to Trump.
Trump has yet to endorse a candidate for the 2024 GOP presidential primary. However, he has indicated that his choice would be between former Vice President Pence and former Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Greene’s campaign did not provide an immediate response to requests for comment.
