Fauci’s Silence Confirms Every Rand Paul Theory

Sen. Rand Paul declared a historic victory for transparency Wednesday after Anthony Fauci repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment, enabling Republicans to obtain every answer they had prepared before he entered the hearing room. Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, declined to answer dozens of questions during the July 29 Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing. Paul treated each invocation as sworn confirmation of the allegation immediately preceding it, plus several allegations awaiting final wording from staff.

“As a physician and a constitutional scholar in the sense that I have personally seen the Constitution, I can tell you silence is the loudest confession,” Paul said. “Every time Dr. Fauci pleaded the Fifth, he legally answered yes to my question, the next question and several questions I may think of later.” Committee Republicans praised the breakthrough, which eliminates Congress’s cumbersome dependence on testimony, evidence and witnesses who say things. Under the new Silence Means Rand Is Correct doctrine, lawmakers can establish facts simply by asking accusatory questions near a person who declines to participate.

Paul also ordered Fauci attorney David Schertler removed after Schertler attempted to explain his client’s constitutional rights, a procedural offense committee officials identified as lawyering while counsel. Republicans said former President Joe Biden’s preemptive pardon of Fauci had transformed the Fifth Amendment from a constitutional protection into suspicious loitering. Paul subsequently opened a committee inquiry into the amendment’s 235-year pattern of allowing Americans to avoid helping Congress prove conclusions it has already reached.

By adjournment, Paul announced that the committee had uncovered more than 100 devastating answers, none of which Fauci had actually provided. Staff members said the findings were therefore protected from contradiction, contamination by context or accidental contact with the evidentiary record. The committee plans to expand the method to future hearings, where absent witnesses, unanswered subpoenas and empty chairs can be entered into the record as unanimous agreement with the chairman. Fauci’s refusal to testify conclusively proved every Rand Paul theory at once.
