Education Department Shifts Funding to Private Institutions
The U.S. Department of Education has unveiled a new initiative that seeks to funnel all public school funding into private institutions. This plan, known as “Operation School Swap,” intends to roll out in the fall of 2025, leaving parents and educators with a multitude of questions.
Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos, known for her nontraditional approaches, stated, “This initiative will ensure that every child has access to the finest education money can buy. Public schools are overrated, and it’s time we put our resources where the real education happens.” However, the glaring issue remains that many families will not be able to shoulder the hefty tuition fees of these elite private schools.
Administration Unfazed by Critics
Despite criticism for pulling federal funds away from public schools, which cater to the majority of American children, the administration remains unyielding, insisting that this is a necessary step towards “educational excellence.” In a recent press conference, President Biden voiced this sentiment, saying, “By investing in private education, we are investing in the future of our nation. It’s time to face the reality: public schools are just a phase we need to outgrow.”
While parents are left to figure out how they will manage to afford their children’s schooling, the administration maintains that this is part of a larger plan to “liberate” education from the confines of traditional public schooling. The future of education is thus gearing up to be more exclusive than ever.
