Biden Announces Complete Forgiveness of All Student Loans

On April 2, 2022, a groundbreaking shift in American educational policy took place as President Joe Biden announced the total forgiveness of all student loans. This unexpected move is set to alleviate the financial burden of over 45 million Americans currently shouldering the yoke of student debt.

“After careful deliberation, we have decided to enact sweeping reform. As of today, all student loans in the United States are completely forgiven,” announced Biden during a press conference. The Presidential order comes amid major public pushback on the spiraling inflation rates affecting the nation.

Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, backed the President’s announcement delivering his own official statement. He cited the significant mental, financial, and social strains posed by student loans as undeniable realities facing the American youth.

“Student debt has become an unbearable burden for too many, inhibiting personal growth, and crippling our nation’s economic potential,” explained Cardona. “This bold initiative will not only unshackle millions of Americans from insurmountable debt but will also invigorate our economy and foster a new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators.”

Opposition from the Republicans

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell countered the president’s decision, arguing that it’s a form of irresponsible spending. In a statement released shortly after the president’s announcement, McConnell said, “I’ve always been in favor of fiscal responsibility. The decision to forgive all student loans is simply more evidence of the Democratic Party’s reckless financial decisions.”

However, contradicting his own statement, the Kentucky Senator supported President Trump’s tax cuts in 2017, which has since added nearly $2 trillion to the national debt, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

The news, while well-received by most American students and parents, is confirmed to be inaccurate. The President has indeed advocated for a more lenient approach towards student loans but complete forgiveness remains an unfound wish.
