Trump Unveils Cash Back Democracy Plan
President Donald Trump announced a sweeping modernization of American democracy Tuesday, replacing outdated concepts such as public service, fiscal restraint and ideological persuasion with a federal loyalty-points program. Speaking at a Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Trump promised every adult citizen a $5,000 “Trump Dividend” if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate in November. The proposal could cost more than $1 trillion and would require congressional approval, two procedural details scheduled for consideration after voters complete their qualifying purchase. Administration officials said the dividend would restore confidence in government by finally attaching a retail value to representative democracy.
Trump rejected suggestions that the proposal amounted to buying votes, noting that no money would change hands until after the desired election result had been delivered. “This is not buying votes, because buying votes sounds very bad, and what we are doing is rewarding tremendous patriotism after the voting is finished,” Trump said. “You elect Republicans, Republicans win, and then maybe, probably, very strongly, everybody gets five thousand dollars. Nobody has ever made democracy pay this beautifully.” The White House classified the plan as government efficiency because mailing checks is faster than lowering the cost of food, housing, health care or energy, all of which require the cumbersome intermediate step of governing.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said Congress would examine every constitutional avenue for converting the Treasury into a post-election cash-back kiosk while preserving the founders’ original commitment to limited government and unlimited promotional offers. Several Republican candidates have declined to emphasize the checks, concerned that voters might misinterpret an explicit promise of money following a partisan victory as an explicit promise of money following a partisan victory. Officials stressed that individual Americans would receive the dividend regardless of how they personally voted, provided enough other Americans voted correctly, making the program both universal and conditional in accordance with modern conservative arithmetic. Under socialism, the government gives citizens money without demanding partisan control first; under Trump’s improved free-market system, the public must purchase Congress before receiving the rebate.
