DHS Launches Voter Fraud Hunt Before Finding Fraud
The Department of Homeland Security launched a nine-state voter fraud surge this week, modernizing American justice by opening the investigation before officials are burdened with evidence that a crime occurred. Homeland Security Investigations agents will pursue leads, conduct interviews and seek prosecutorial review through mid-October in Washington, Wisconsin, Missouri, Georgia, California, Pennsylvania, Nevada, New York and Connecticut. HSI traditionally handles secondary federal concerns such as human trafficking, drug smuggling and child exploitation, but will now confront the national emergency of registered voters continuing to exist near an election.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said federal reviews had uncovered vast numbers of potentially unlawful registrations, with “potentially” performing the legal work previously assigned to facts. In Nevada, officials confirmed 185 cases from a pool of nearly 16,000 registrations initially portrayed as suspicious, producing a 1.2 percent evidence rate considered sufficient for several cable-news graphics, a congressional hearing and at least four fundraising emails. Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar said his office had received no information about the operation, an omission federal officials cited as proof that the investigation is either highly secret, exceptionally advanced or still being assembled from a PowerPoint template labeled “Election Integrity Final FINAL 2.”
President Donald Trump praised the initiative as a decisive break from the outdated practice of investigating crimes after obtaining evidence. “We have the greatest investigations because we investigate everybody first, before anything happens, and if somebody gets nervous when federal agents ask about a ballot, that means they are probably guilty,” Trump said. “Innocent people love being questioned by the government. They say thank you, sir, please inspect another election.” The surge also sets aside Justice Department cautions against conspicuous federal election activity shortly before voting, with administration officials explaining that influencing an election is lawful when the interference arrives in a government vehicle and wears a windbreaker marked “FEDERAL AGENT.” Americans may therefore vote with renewed confidence that every lawful ballot will count unless an investigator dislikes the voter’s name, neighborhood or facial expression. The absence of voter fraud has now been formally reclassified as voter fraud’s most sophisticated form.
