Trump Defeats Iran By Sanctioning International Trade

President Donald Trump declared an economic victory over Iran after threatening penalties against countries that buy Iranian oil, countries that trade with those countries, and any remaining nations reckless enough to participate in commerce. The strategy, described by administration officials as “economic D-Day,” will isolate Tehran by gradually isolating everyone else first, protecting the United States from the destabilizing influence of affordable energy, functioning supply chains and customers abroad.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent outlined the campaign as a triumph of administrative efficiency. Rather than negotiate separately with China, India, Turkey and other major economies, the United States can warn them collectively that purchasing Iranian products may result in tariffs, sanctions or a presidential social-media post containing several capitalized nouns. “Very simply, if China buys something from Iran, then China is basically Iran, and if India buys from China, India becomes Iran too,” Trump said. “Soon everybody is Iran except us, which means we win automatically. Nobody has ever understood economics this strongly.” Officials confirmed that the geopolitical classification process requires no paperwork beyond deciding that foreign trade is hostile whenever foreigners conduct it.

The White House said the policy would force Iran into complete financial solitude, accompanied only by its energy customers, regional merchants, financial intermediaries and governments unwilling to reorganize their economies around Washington’s latest deadline. American consumers may encounter higher fuel prices and more expensive imported goods, Bessent acknowledged, but those costs will be recorded as victory surcharges rather than inflation. Businesses facing disrupted supply chains will likewise receive the strategic freedom to charge more, hire less and explain that the resulting hardship originated overseas. Iran has therefore been defeated, because Americans are paying for the victory.
