FBI Proved More Russian Than Trump By Investigating Him
Administration officials announced Wednesday that newly declassified FBI memos conclusively establish the bureau’s investigation of Donald Trump as the most successful Russian influence operation in American history. The documents show that agents opened a counterintelligence inquiry in May 2017 after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, seeking to determine whether the president had acted “wittingly or unwittingly” on Russia’s behalf. The inquiry was later absorbed into Robert Mueller’s investigation, which ended without charging Trump with conspiring with Moscow. FBI Director Kash Patel praised the disclosures as decisive evidence that opening an investigation is legally identical to fabricating its conclusion, provided the subject later returns to the presidency and appoints people who agree. Patel said investigators traditionally examine evidence before deciding what it means, but acknowledged that the updated constitutional process requires them to begin by determining whether the subject might someday call them traitors on television. Comey declined to comment, an action officials entered into the record as further proof that former FBI directors communicate through suspicious silences. The White House said additional documents will be released until Americans accept the central principle of accountable government: When investigators suspect a president of serving Russia, the investigators are serving Russia.
